The Women's Museum - An Institute for the Future

In the late 1990s, Women's Resources took on the job of making the dream by board president Cathy Bonner come true to develop, fund, build and open the $32-million Women's Museum, in association with the Smithsonian Institution, as the first (and, to date, only) comprehensive national women's history museum in the US. The museum opened in September 2000 in Dallas, Texas, to international acclaim less than three years after its conception. The museum has operated as a separate, nonprofit organization since 2002. In October 2011, the museum building and exhibits were closed after more than a decade of continuous operation and the board of directors began a strategic envisioning process to establish new objectives for the future. Women's Resources is very proud to have been able to execute and help others sustain the first-ever national history museum dedicated to women. We also believe that the vision to honor the past and shape the future is not tied to any one physical place; it resides in the hearts and hopes and actions of all women everywhere who seek to continue learning, leading and leaving positive legacies.
